Cleaning Your Air Filter

SXTH Element filters are made from cotton fibers that are woven tightly enough to not necessitate oiling. Our filters can be cleaned using a mild detergent and warm water.

  1. Remove your air filter from the intake.
  2. Run warm water through the opening of the intake so the water flows in the reverse direction that air flows through it. This pushes the dirt out of the filter the way it came in.
  3. Using your hand, lightly rub a mild detergent over the outer surface and in the crevices of the filter material.
  4. Run warm water through the opening again to remove the detergent and the grime that it picked up.
  5. Set upright to dry out of direct sunlight. Do not reinstall the filter until it is completely dry. There is no need to oil the filter before installation.

Some other companies require oiling their filters because of the space between the fibers. This in turn allows for high airflow, but requires more cleaning and oiling afterwards. This process of oiling filters is also more common in high dust environments where the filter needs to capture an abnormal about of particles (i.e. off road).
